Estiramento do Papel

Paper Stretch

How and when to use

The technique of stretching the paper on a flat surface prevents that in jobs where it is necessary a great load of ink or much humidity, the paper becomes wrinkled and harms the final result.
You can do this both with the roles: Schoeller, Fabriano, Canson or Debret. For each of them the time of exposure to water may be higher or lower according to the weight in use. Papers of heavier weight may be exposed for a longer period than the finer ones. Anyway, this dip in the water should not exceed 15 seconds. Once this has been done, place the wet paper on a very smooth wood, an equally smooth Formica or an Eucatex and with a clean cloth, remove excess water from the surface in a more delicate fast way avoiding damages. Then moisten strips of gummed tape with a damp sponge and place on the edges of the paper all the way around, leaving half the tape on it and the other half on the chosen surface.
Caution: do not use crepe or adhesive tape, only the gummed tape that has a glue on the back that is activated with the sponge moisture, serves for this purpose. Avoid stretching on glass, acrylic and plastic, because depending on the paper and the amount of water the result may not be as desired and some part may escape after drying.
Made the whole process, let it dry naturally away from sun or heat and on flat surface.
The illustration above of how to stretch the paper I found times ago on the internet and perhaps facilitate the understanding of the technique.
