O nome dele é Dean Mitchell. Mitchell cresceu no sul - pobre, negro e nem mesmo conhecendo o pai. Sua mãe o desencorajou de uma carreira artística porque era muito difícil ganhar a vida. E sua tia lhe disse: "Os negros nunca comprarão fotos".
Hoje, aos 61 anos, Mitchell trabalha em um estúdio em Tampa, Flórida, não muito longe da pequena cidade de Quincy, onde ele cresceu. Ele encontra a beleza em tudo, desde as igrejas históricas com painéis brancos do sul até os rostos dos músicos de rua que trabalham duro em Nova Orleans.

His name is Dean Mitchell. Mitchell grew up in the South - poor, black and not even knowing his father. His mother discouraged him from an artistic career because it was very difficult to earn a living. And his aunt told him, "The blacks will never buy pictures."
Today, at age 61, Mitchell works in a studio in Tampa, Florida, not far from the small town of Quincy where he grew up. He finds beauty in everything from the historic white-paneled churches of the south to the faces of hard-working street musicians in New Orleans.
